You can't have one,
without the other
The Rotary Club of the Kinglake Ranges exists because of the community around us.
Everything we do - from local events and fundraising to youth programs and support initiatives - is driven by one simple goal:
to strengthen the place we all call home.
We’re proud to be part of the Kinglake Ranges community and proud to stand alongside the people, families, businesses and organisations that make it such a unique place to live.

Built from Community, for the Community
The Rotary Club of the Kinglake Ranges was officially chartered in 2011 - but the story behind our club begins earlier, in one of the most difficult periods our region has ever faced.
Following the devastating Black Saturday bushfires of 2009, communities across the Kinglake Ranges were forever changed.
Lives were lost. Homes, businesses and landscapes were destroyed. Families and neighbours faced unimaginable hardship as communities across the Kinglake Ranges, Marysville, Flowerdale and surrounding areas began the long journey of rebuilding.
But in the middle of that devastation, something else became incredibly clear:
-
the strength of community.
-
People showed up for one another.
-
Neighbours helped neighbours.
-
Locals rebuilt together.
And from that spirit of connection, resilience and community support, our club was born.
The Rotary Club of the Kinglake Ranges was created to help continue that sense of unity and community action long after the headlines faded.
Resilient & Kind
The Kinglake Ranges has always been a unique part of regional Victoria.
Nestled between bushland, farmland and small townships, the area is home to people from all walks of life — long-time locals, young families, creatives, tradespeople, small business owners, hobby farmers and community-minded people looking for a different pace of life.
There’s a strong sense of independence here, but also something equally important:
people genuinely care about one another.
That community spirit has shaped the region for generations.
And after Black Saturday, it became the foundation for rebuilding not just homes and infrastructure — but connection, belonging and local pride.

Why Our Club Exists
Our Club exists to strengthen and support the community around us.
Everything we do - from local events and youth programs to fundraising, community projects and disaster support - is about helping create a connected, thriving and resilient community for future generations.
Because community isn’t built by buildings alone.
It’s built by people showing up.
What We Do in the Community
Our club supports the Kinglake Ranges community in many different ways throughout the year.
That includes:
-
running the Kinglake Market
-
supporting local schools and youth leadership opportunities
-
community BBQs and fundraising events
-
backing junior sports and local initiatives
-
supporting disaster relief and recovery efforts
-
helping charities and community organisations both locally and globally
Some projects are large and visible. Others happen quietly behind the scenes.
But all of them are built on the same belief:
small actions, when done together, create real impact.

More Than Just Volunteering
Being part of our club is about much more than meetings or fundraising.
It’s:
-
friendships built while setting up events
-
conversations at the market
-
helping hands during difficult times
-
laughter during busy BBQ shifts
-
a village to help our members through tough moments and pass on knowledge wherever we can
-
supporting each new generation
-
and knowing you’re contributing to something meaningful
The community supports us just as much as we support it - and that relationship is something we value deeply.
A Club Shaped by Different People
Like the Kinglake Ranges itself, our club is made up of people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and skills.
Some members have lived in the area for decades. Others are newer to the region. Some run businesses, some are retired, some are parents juggling busy lives, and others are just looking for a way to connect and contribute.
That diversity is one of our greatest strengths.
There’s no “typical” Rotarian in our club — just people who care enough to get involved and make a difference in their own way.

Looking Ahead
More than a decade after our club was formed, the same values that inspired its creation still guide us today: community, resilience, connection and service.
But while we’re proud of where we came from, we’re equally focused on where we’re going.
The Rotary Club of the Kinglake Ranges continues to evolve alongside the community around us — and that means embracing new ideas, new technology and new ways of connecting with people.
Over the past few years, our club has worked hard to modernise how we operate and how we engage with the community. We’ve embraced social media as a way to better showcase what we do, share community stories, celebrate our members and make Rotary feel more approachable and visible to younger generations.
From Facebook and Instagram through to now exploring TikTok, we’re focused on showing the real side of our club: the people, the laughs, the impact, the chaos of event setup, the behind-the-scenes moments and the community spirit that makes our club what it is.
Because Rotary today looks very different to the stereotype many people still imagine.
We’ve also embraced fresh ideas brought in by both long-time and newer members - ideas that have helped shape a more flexible, modern and engaging club culture.
Over the past year especially, we’ve intentionally shifted away from overly formal meeting structures and focused more on:
-
hands-on community action
-
social connection
-
volunteering together
-
collaborative projects
-
and simply making Rotary more enjoyable and accessible for busy people, such as making as much accessible via Zoom as possible.
That means fewer nights sitting around tables and more:
-
working bees
-
community projects
-
casual catch-ups
-
event days
-
and opportunities to genuinely connect while doing something meaningful
Because at the end of the day, our club works best when people enjoy being part of it.
As our community continues to grow and change, we want our club to grow with it — creating a space where people of all ages, backgrounds and experiences feel welcome to contribute in their own way.
The future of the Rotary Club of the Kinglake Ranges isn’t about staying the same. It’s about staying connected, staying relevant, and continuing to build a club that reflects the community around it.
