Year 6–7 Transition Scholarship
Our long-running scholarship program supports nominated Year 6 students as they prepare to make the jump from primary school to secondary school.
Students receive financial assistance along with a transition pack designed to encourage journaling, self-reflection, confidence and personal growth.
Because sometimes a young person just needs someone to say:
"We believe in you."

Year 6–7 Transition Scholarship
A Little Support for a Big New Chapter
Starting high school is a pretty big deal.
New classrooms. New teachers. New friends. New expectations.
For some students, it's exciting. For others, it can feel a little overwhelming.
The Rotary Club of Kinglake Ranges has a long-running commitment to supporting local young people through this important transition, providing scholarships to nominated Year 6 students from local primary schools as they prepare to begin secondary school.
More Than $200
Each scholarship provides $200 to help students and families with some of the costs associated with starting high school.
But the scholarship is about more than the money.
It's about recognising a young person, celebrating what they've achieved and giving them a little extra encouragement as they take their next step.
From Books to Bright Futures
Our scholarship program has a wonderful connection to our Rotary Book Stall at the Kinglake Market.
Generous community members donate second-hand books, which are sold for just a few dollars.
The money raised helps fund our scholarships.
So a book that someone has finished reading can eventually help a local student begin a completely new chapter.
That's community impact in action.
A Transition Pack for the Journey
Each scholarship recipient also receives a small transition pack containing:
📓 A journal
🖊️ A pen
🖍️ A highlighter
💡 Fun facts and prompts to encourage journaling and reflection
The idea is to give students a simple way to record their thoughts, goals and experiences as they begin high school.
Journaling can encourage self-reflection and help young people think about their goals, achievements, challenges and the experiences that shape them.
It's a small addition to the scholarship, but one we hope will encourage confidence, wellbeing and personal growth during an important life change.
Recognising Potential
Our scholarships are awarded to nominated students who demonstrate qualities such as:
Leadership
Community spirit
Kindness
Perseverance
Positive attitude
Potential
We're not looking for perfect students.
We're recognising young people who are already making a positive contribution and showing the qualities that will help them thrive.
Why We Invest in Young People
Young people are an important part of the future of the Kinglake Ranges.
Supporting them doesn't always require a huge project.
Sometimes it's $200.
Sometimes it's a journal.
Sometimes it's simply telling a 12-year-old:
"We see what you're capable of. Keep going."
We think that's worth investing in.
